Course Description:

Increasingly, our understanding of the structure of biofilm and the self-protective mechanisms associated with it has evolved. The development of microbial loads, and competing and synergistic biofilm components play a role in its maturation and pathogenesis. Biofilm communication, microbial resistance and recent developments are addressed during the presentation. This is followed by a review of mechanical therapies and chemotherapeutics that disrupt and/or reduce biofilm, as well as current and future options that may alter biofilm.
